What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is a relaxation and stress reduction technique that promotes healing. The practice of Reiki is Japanese in origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “energy.” In the Chinese medicine tradition, ki is called chi and in the Hindu tradition it’s called prana. So, Reiki is the life force energy that flows through all living things.
Reiki practitioners consciously draw on this energy and channel it down their arms and through their hands for another person to draw upon. This is accomplished through light touch and/or with hands hovering slightly over the body at each of the 7 main chakras. This influx of life-force energy balances the body’s energy system, brings a state of deep relaxation, and promotes healing.
Reiki (or any energy work) is not bound by space and time. Therefore, it is just as powerful and effective from a distance as it is in person.

What is Holy Fire® III?
Holy Fire® Reiki is a new form of Reiki that was introduced by the ICRT, The International Center for Reiki Training in 2014. Since then, the energy has evolved and become more refined and comes from ever higher levels of consciousness. In 2015, the energy upgraded and became known as Holy Fire® II. In 2018, a new level appeared once again and became known as Holy Fire® III. Holy Fire® is both powerful and gentle. It heals through purification, healing, empowerment and guidance. Holy Fire® III Reiki is a combination of traditional Usui Reiki and a contemporary evolution of Reiki. Our Reiki classes include the four Reiki symbols from the Usui tradition plus the symbol from Holy Fire® III Reiki. This has also been added to our Karuna Reiki® training.
Many practitioners of Reiki have felt an unusual strong heat in their hands and a warm gentle flow through their entire being, like a flame. The energy is noticeably more refined and comes from a higher level of consciousness than any energy we have encountered before. Some of its attributes include:

Works continuously even when not thinking about it and spontaneously heals issues as they come up.

One of the more wonderful effects is a feeling of being loved. This is a deep and refined feeling that is very nurturing.

Once received, it continues to develop itself to be more evolved and effective.

These qualities are present in Reiki I & II and become more pronounced in the ART/Master and Karuna Reiki® classes.
Holy Fire® III and Religious Context
The use of the word "holy" in the name Holy Fire® III is not intended to have a religious meaning. Although the word "holy" does indeed have an Old English root that means "consecrated" or "sacred," this is not the intended meaning of the word "holy" in the context of "Holy Fire®." Instead, the word is used in its Proto-Indo-European root context meaning "whole," "uninjured," or "complete." Therefore, Holy Fire® III is a spiritual energy that creates wholeness through purification, healing, empowerment and guidance.
Attunements, Placements, and Ignitions
The traditional way of passing on the ability to give Reiki is called an attunement, which is generally an in--person and hands--on process. The attunement method in the Holy Fire® system utilizes Placements and Ignitions instead. We have found that students who undergo Placements and Ignitions have higher vibrational experiences, making the connection with the Reiki energy more effective and more powerful.
Lineage
Holy Fire® III has no lineage. Lineage, as it is used with Reiki, refers to the physical person who originally channeled the energy. No one originally did this. Therefore, the lineage of Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki Ryoho will remain with Usui Sensei. The lineage for Karuna® Reiki will remain with William Lee Rand. But we need to always indicate that the Holy Fire® III does not have a lineage.
